Match Report: Guedes and Garay's strikes stun Real Madrid at Mestalla (2-1)

The win against Real Madrid leaves Valencia CF a point off the Champions League places

Valencia CF played against Real Madrid in what was the standout fixture of matchday 30 of LaLiga Santander at Mestalla. Valencia CF and Real Madrid were off to a tentative start with neither side able to make any inroads in the opening minutes of the game.

Valencia CF upped the tempo of the game knocking the ball about well.  Gonçalo Guedes opened the scoring following a corner kick and after a brilliant lay-off from Carlos Soler and the Portuguese drilled it inside the near post.

The floodgates opened and Valencia CF enjoyed a clear-cut chance from Kevin Gameiro with a header that fizzed just wide after a clipped ball towards the back post, and another one from Kondogbia who scoffed it over. 

Rodrigo Moreno had the last kick of the half for Valencia CF flashing a powerful effort over the bar from outside the box. Valencia CF were edging Real Madrid at the interval after dominating for large spells in the first half.  

Ezequiel Garay sealed the win for Valencia CF with an absolute bullet of a header past Keylor Navas.   

Karim Benzema pulled one back deep into stoppage time with a header. The game finished 2-1 and Valencia CF stunned Real Madrid in a midweek showdown than saw Valencia CF take three huge points in the battle for the European spots. 

 Valencia CF will play against Rayo Vallecano on Saturday the 6th of April at 6.30 pm kick-off time on matchday 31 of LaLiga Santander
